Eucalyptus tortoise beetle
View LargerThe eucalyptus tortoise beetle, Trachymela sloanei feeds on eucalyptus foliage, leaving behind characteristic notches. The adult beetle is shown here. The soft-bodied larval stages also feed on foliage. Heavy infestations can lead to almost complete defoliation. However, these beetles alone are not known to cause tree death. In combination with other more serious pests, though, they can contribute to tree death.
