The coqui, the (unofficial) symbol of Puerto Rico

View Larger This small (1 inch long) tree frog is unique to Puerto Rico. At night, the male coquies sing, chirping out a loud, but beautiful, high pitched "ko-kee". With thousands of frogs singing from sundown to sun up, it is an amazing nighttime chorus. This coqui found his way into the kitchen of the lodge where we were staying, and we couldn't resist taking his picture.
