This chart shows a calculated optimum timing for overseeding and shows the grow-in time window immediately following the overseeding window. This is for Sakahata, Japan, in Chiba prefecture near Tokyo. These windows can be calculated for any location based on temperature data.

The start of the optimum overseeding window is identified as the date at which the cool-season GP consistently exceeds the warm-season GP. This happens at an air temperature of about 24.8 degrees Celsius (about 77 degrees F). The end of the optimum overseeding window is identified as the date when the average air temperature begins to consistently drop below 20 degrees C (68 F). The end of the optimum grow-in window is the date when the average temperature starts to consistently fall below 16 C (61 F).
