New thrips on Myoporum
This new pest on the ornamental shrub Myoporum was recently introduced into Southern California. Feeding by thrips causes leaves to form galls and die. The adult thrips (scientific name Klambothrips) is 1/20 inch long. The wings, which are folded across the insect's back, have a fringe of long hairs on the margins of their wings which are visible in this photo. Southern California, June 2007.
