Poa roots were infected with Magnaporthiopsis poae (previously known as Magnaporthe poae), the fungus that causes summer patch. The fungus is characterized by simple hyphopodia, growth cessation structures and dark runner hyphae. For more information, see this PACE Turf Reference on Summer Patch.
