Large patch (Rhizoctonia solani) on seashore paspalum turf

This is large patch (Rhizoctonia solani) on a seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum) driving range in Florida. The photo is by Todd Lowe.

There are clear large patch symptoms on turf that is lower, while the disease symptoms are less visible or completely absent on adjacent turf. This pattern in the turf was caused by a light fraise mowing on March 23, 2023. No disease symptoms were present at that time. The photo was taken 25 days later, on April 17. The turf with the large patch was cut with the fraise mower to generate some sprigs. The taller turf with less severe large patch symptoms was not fraise mowed.

Large patch symptoms often appear more extensively in turf mown at a lower cutting height. It is rare to see this effect so clearly.
