Application of soap solution for caterpillar monitoring

Two gallons of a 1% soap solution (made with liquid dishwashing soap) applied to an area a square yard in size will bring caterpillars such as black cutworms and sod webworms to the surface. Other organisms that may surface include black turfgrass ataenius adults, billbug adults and earthworms.
