Charts of the week: daily average temperature calculation

The daily average temperature seems like an easy number to get, and a standard number to be familiar with. This is, for example, the basis for growth potential (GP) calculations.

The method we generally use for PACE Turf calculations is to add together the daily high and the daily low temperatures, and then to divide by 2.

The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) recommends this method (see below), while noting that "this method is not the best statistical approximation".
