PACE Turf - Turfgrass Information Center

Turf pest mobile app

Researchers at University of Wiscconsin have developed a web application that is designed to work well with mobile phones. The application provides drop-down menus for turf diseases, insects and weeds. To review all of the pesticides labeled for a specific pest, for example chickweed, click on turf weeds and then select, Chickweed. The various trade-named products will be displayed with efficacy data, mode of action code, rate of application and application intervals.  Not all products are listed, but there is a good range of products and active ingredients represented. The application does not provide the background information that can be found in Dr. Paul Vincelli's Chemical Control of Turfgrss Diseases guide pdf file, but the application also includes insects and weeds. One of the nice features is you can select multiple pests. For example, if you click on "Turf diseases", and then check the boxes for "Algae", "Athracnose" and "Brown ring patch", you will be provided a list with four products that are labeled for these three pests, Trinity, Concert, Fame C and Traction, with the estimate for highest level of efficacy for all three being Trinity. You will have to be cautious on how you evaluate the results because there is little efficacy data "L" available for several of the products on several of the diseases. Do not depend upoon the data to make pesticide selection decisions, but the application will help you focus your search for products that are at least labeled for the pest that you are concerned with.
