Southern blight primordial sclerotia

The white, oblong bodies are the primordia (early stages) of the sclerotia that are characteristic of Southern blight (Sclerotium rolfsii). The sclerotia form in the soil and thatch and are the structures that the fungus uses to survive adverse conditions. They turn dark brown as they mature.
