Mineralization of nitrogen (making N plant available) from organic matter in the soil can provide significant amounts of nitrogen over the course of the growing season. This table roughly estimates the release of N from organic matter (% OM) based upon soil organic matter content using combustion at 360 C. Consider this unexpected source of organic matter during the summer months when mineralization is a it's highest.
