Seasonal sodium accumulation
Comparison of Mehlich III extracted sodium accumulation in greens soils at Santa Ana CC(irrigation water sodium adsorption ratio SAR = 10) to Friendly Hills CC (irrigation water SAR = 0.6). Quarter refers to the quarters of the year that samples were submitted for analysis. Q1 = Jan - Mar, Q2 = Apr - Jun, Q3 = Jul - Sep, Q4 = Oct - Dec. Rainfall in Southern California primarily falls during Q4 and Q1. Spring soil samples, ~Q2, will provide an assessment of how well soil salts and sodium have leached to lower depths in the soil and the soil nutrient status before the growing season. Fall samples, ~Q3, will provide an assessment of how soil salts have accumulated over the irrigation season.
