Sand moisture release curve
View LargerExample of laboratory estimated moisture release curve for a sand sample. Increasing suction is placed on the moist sample and the sample is weighed to determine the amount of water retained in the sample at different levels of suction. The suction is applied to mimic the suction produced by a column of water draining from the sand evaluated at different depths of sand. For a bunker sand, not more than 15% moisture content (roughly equivalent to volumetric water content or VWC) is desired to discourage growth of algae at the surface of the bunker sand.
