Mystery insect (?) damage

View Larger In this photo submitted by Dr. Eric Rebek of Oklahoma State University, a lawn is covered by these fine granules. The homeowner reports that the area feels softer to walk on than other lawns. Earthworms are unlikely, because the area has been very droughty recently. Green June beetle larvae are a possibility, as are March fly larvae. If you have any other theories, let us know what you think at pace@paceturf.org.
