Leaf Doctor and rhizoctonia

The mobile phone application, Leaf Doctor, was used to estimate the level of disease damaged zoysiagrass in an aerial (drone) photo provided by Dr. Mike Richardson (@ArkansasTurf on Twitter), University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Turf damage was caused by Rhizoctonia solani.

While the two photos illustrate identical areas of turf, the photo to the right was produced using Leaf Doctor, with the diseased areas indicated in blue. According to the threshold of green that was selected to represent healthy grass, 28% of the area in the photo was diseased. Leaf Doctor is a handy application to help get an objective estimate of turf damage -- you may want to investigate it for yourself.
