Frit fly larva

View Larger The tiny (3 mm) maggots are the larval stage of the frit fly, Oscinella frit. In these two photos, the arrow points to the insect's rear end. The head is buried in the crown of this ryegrass plant, where it's rasping style of feeding causes foliage to yellow and die.
