Daily light integral
View LargerSolar radidation over the course of 12 days during May, 2008, as measured in terms of the daily light integral. Measurements were made by the Spectrum WatchDog 2475 mini weather station. Stations were placed in a sunny area (pink line) and a shady area (dark blue line) at La Jolla Country Club, Dennis Fowler, Superintendent. The minimum light requirement for adequate growth is more than 10 mol/m^2/day for cool season C3 turfgrass and more than 20 mol/m^2/day in general for C4 grasses. The shady area has a persisent poa invasion problem that is impossible to manage using conventional cultural or chemical tools. The kikuygrass can not compete in the low light conditons.
