Anthracnose on leaf tip
October, 2007, Southern California, Poa annua green. Anthracnose is most frequently observed attacking leaves that are stressed, but in this unique photo, the tip of a new, healthy leaf has become infected and has produced acervuli, setae and spores of Colletotrichum cereale. The superintendent at this location is working to convert greens from poa to bentgrass and has implemented a low nitrogen management program in combination with growth regulators. There is no detectable soil nitrate using the
Hach nitrate strip test. Low nitrogen may be the stressor that caused this unusual situation.
