Using the Mehlich III extraction, the 18 soils tested all exceeded the silicon requirement (provided by the International Rice Research Institute) of approximately 40 ppm. Soils such as these, that exceed the silicon concentration targeted for plant health, may not benefit from application of silicon amendments. Analysis conducted by Brookside Labs, New Knoxville, OH. Note that there is currently no agreed upon method of chemical analysis for soil silicon and for this reason, establishing silicon deficiencies is unfortunately not a clear cut process.
