Proxy, or ethephon, may cause scalping on bentgrass, as detailed in a 2007 to 2008 study conducted by Dernoeden and Pigati. This data from 2008 indicates that scalping damage shows up 6 weeks or more after application, but that the turf recovers several weeks later. Scalping has not been a consistent problem with Proxy on bentgrass in other locations, however. For more information, see this PACE Turf review and interpretation of the research.
