NOTE from PACE Turf: Free-living nematodes are common inhabitants of the turf world that feed on bacteria and protozoa, and are not pests. To definitively tell whether the nematodes are free-living or parasitic, you would need to take a closer look with a compound microscope, which would allow you to see whether they have stylets (in which case they are plant pests) or not.
